Updated: ABC News Outs Retired Military Officers Involved with CIA’s Waterboarding Tactic

Posted in Media Bias on May 1st, 2009 by John H – Be the first to comment

Brian Ross, Mathew Cole, and Joseph Rhee from ABC News are singling out two retired military psychologists as the masterminds behind the CIA’s enhanced interrogation techniques.

According to current and former government officials, the CIA’s secret waterboarding program was designed and assured to be safe by two well-paid psychologists now working out of an unmarked office building in Spokane, Washington.

Bruce Jessen and Jim Mitchell, former military officers, together founded Mitchell Jessen and Associates.

Both men declined to speak to ABC News citing non-disclosure agreements with the CIA. But sources say Jessen and Mitchell together designed and implemented the CIA’s interrogation program.

Based on the report these sources amount to ACLU attorney Jameel Jaffer, Col. Steven Kleinman, and Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich).

It doesn’t sound like ABC News has any real evidence to suggest Jessen and Mitchell were the “architects” behind the waterboarding technique, but hey why let that get in the way of a story… let’s get their names out there and let the public decide.

Update:
Looks like Salon actually named Jessen and Mitchell back in 2007.

According to congressional sources and mental healthcare professionals knowledgeable about the secret program who spoke with Salon, two CIA-employed psychologists, James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen, were at the center of the program, which likely violated the Geneva Conventions on the treatment of prisoners. The two are currently under investigation: Salon has learned that Daniel Dell’Orto, the principal deputy general counsel at the Department of Defense, sent a “document preservation” order on May 15 to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other top Pentagon officials forbidding the destruction of any document mentioning Mitchell and Jessen or their psychological consulting firm, Mitchell, Jessen and Associates, based in Spokane, Wash. Dell’Orto’s order was in response to a May 1 request from Sen. Carl Levin, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, who is investigating the abuse of prisoners in U.S. custody.

Both ABC News and Salon deserve the Journalistic Snitch award for ratting out these two consultants “hired” to provide their expertise on a program our own military members undergo and apply it to information gathering.

GE Shareholders Express Outrage Over MSNBC Liberal Bias

Naturally MSBNC was nowhere near this story.

Just before GE board members were re-elected, shareholders asked about 10 questions of a mostly political nature concerning the viewpoints of MSNBC and CNBC, according to attendees.

First up was a woman asking about a reported meeting in which Immelt and NBC Uni CEO Jeff Zucker supposedly told top CNBC executives and talent to be less critical of President Obama and his policies.

Immelt acknowledged a meeting took place but said no one at CNBC was told what to say or not say about politics.

During the woman’s follow-up question, her microphone was cut off. Later, during the umpteenth question about MSNBC, another shareholder’s microphone was cut, according to multiple attendees.

“The crowd was very upset with MSNBC because of its leftward tilt,” one attendee said. “Some former employees said they were embarrassed by it.”

One specific complaint about MSNBC concerned Keith Olbermann’s interview of actress Janeane Garofalo, who likened conservatives to racists and spoke of “the limbic brain inside a right-winger.”

“They were upset that Olbermann didn’t bother to challenge her,” one GE shareholder said.

Shareholders should be upset but not naive.  Olbermann’s leftist leaning agenda isn’t quite news so the fact that he never once challenged  Socielite zombie, Janeane Garofalo, is par for the course.

MSNBC and the other media elite have shown nothing but disdain for the average working Americans who keep this country running, fight it’s wars, barely take enough pay home to make ends meet, and now face uncertain economic times.  In light of the circumstances you would think these seven-figure salary pundits could feign some empathy for one day when these red, white and blue Americans rally to peacefully express their opposition to increased government spending subsidized by their tax dollars.  But that is too much for us mere peons to ask from the socially righteous champions of their own interests especially when they have 24hrs to report how contemptible they find us.

Instead these Americans were treated to demeaning sexual jokes, called racist rednecks too ignorant or neurological incapable of understanding taxation, and portrayed as tools of the right-wing by the dear leaders of the media elite less interested in honest reporting than deciding what is news.

Frankly, I ‘m glad that these Socielites are unhinged by 250,000 average Americans putting aside geography, socio-economic class, race, and political party to come together as Americans.  I’m glad that despite their average limbic brains, these Socielites can’t help but show their contempt, fear, and anger for the common working American.  I’m glad that these titans of teleprompters are unable to resist the warm glow of electronic scrolling print and come off sounding like a chorus of zombie seals barking the same nonsense.   I’m glad that the best these Socielites can do is project their own miserable qualities onto Americans in order to make themselves feel better.

And I’m glad Americans are starting to say enough is enough.
