Rahm Emanuel: Pushing the Reset Button on Israel Key to Iranian Threat

Back in June, as the Democratic presumptive presidential nominee, Obama made the following statements at an annual American Israel Public Affairs Council (AIPAC) meeting in Washington:

“There’s no greater threat to Israel or to the peace and stability of the region than Iran.”

“The danger from Iran is grave and real and my goal will be to eliminate this threat.”

Speaking before 300 major APAIC donors on Sunday, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel addressed how Obama plans to eliminate that threat:

Thwarting Iran’s nuclear program is conditional on progress in peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, according to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

Israeli TV reports said Monday that Emanuel made the comments in a closed-door meeting the previous day with 300 major AIPAC donors.

Last month, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Israel that it risks losing Arab support for combating threats from Iran if it rejects peace negotiations with the Palestinians.

Clinton said Arab nations had conditioned helping Israel counter Iran on Jerusalem’s commitment to the peace process.

Not really a surprise considering back in June, Obama also said:

“As president of the United States, I would be willing to lead tough and principled diplomacy with the appropriate Iranian leader at a time and place of my choosing…”

And backed that statement up with a special Nowruz YouTube message for Iran’s mullahs.

Just another example of the Obama administration pushing the reset button.

The Obama administration and European allies are mulling over dropping the key condition that Iran suspend its nuclear program while entering negotiations with the 6 nation powers.

I guess if you can’t beat them just let them do what they want to…. Sorry Israel.

U.S. To Iran: Hello is Anyone There… Hello?

In light of Iran’s recent claim of now running 7,000 uranium enrichment centrifuges and Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmedinejad declaring the nuclear issue a closed case, State Department spokesman Robert Wood said the U.S. was still waiting for a response from Iran to engage in talks.

Apparently the U.S. and other U.N. Security Council nations don’t understand that a lack of a response is a response.  Actually Mr. Ahmamembersonlyjacket clearly stated he would only sit down on condition that there were no conditions.

While the U.N. Security Council holds numerous “emergency meetings” that only result in the member nations agreeing to disagree, Iran and North Korea seem quite content to pursue their nuclear ambitions without impunity while our allies in their respective regions begin to realize exactly what George Bush understood.

Shintaro Ito, Japan’s vice minister for foreign affairs, who flew to New York to press for added sanctions, said before Thursday’s talks among the council’s major powers that the credibility of the Security Council would suffer unless diplomats react quickly to the launch.

“If we don’t do adequate and swift action for these serious violations, the existence of the Security Council as a meaningful institution will become doubtful,” Ito said.

“The adequate reaction is to adopt a resolution,” he said. “This is a serious problem for regional peace and security. And also this is a big test for the United Nations Security Council.”

Better check that cowboy diplomacy Ito…

Dr. Oddlyenough or How Iran Stopped Worrying and Learned to Build the Bomb

According to the Daily News, the NY District Attorney’s office uncovered plot by a Chinese national to smuggle nuclear weapons materials to Iran.

Okay, I’m not going to touch on China’s involvement here - though it amazes me how Russia and China always seem to be involved in helping rogue countries gain nuclear capabilities, always seem to agree on the need for nuclear arm controls, and the first to always urge restraint when dealing with these same rogue countries start testing these capabilities.

No bother, in light of this new evidence, I’m sure the U.N. Security Council will immediately draft a scathing memo to Iran requesting they please stop right after they deal with North Korea’s provocative act.
