Obama Promises Prague U.S. Will Lead The World Toward Nuclear Free Future

Posted in Barack Obama on April 5th, 2009 by John H – Be the first to comment

Speaking before an enthusiastic crowd of trained seals in Prague, Obama addressed his vision of a nuclear free future.

Now, one of those issues that I’ll focus on today is fundamental to the security of our nations and to the peace of the world - that’s the future of nuclear weapons in the 21st century.

The existence of thousands of nuclear weapons is the most dangerous legacy of the Cold War. No nuclear war was fought between the United States and the Soviet Union, but generations lived with the knowledge that their world could be erased in a single flash of light. Cities like Prague that existed for centuries, that embodied the beauty and the talent of so much of humanity, would have ceased to exist.

Today, the Cold War has disappeared but thousands of those weapons have not. In a strange turn of history, the threat of global nuclear war has gone down, but the risk of a nuclear attack has gone up. More nations have acquired these weapons. Testing has continued. Black market trade in nuclear secrets and nuclear materials abound. The technology to build a bomb has spread. Terrorists are determined to buy, build or steal one. Our efforts to contain these dangers are centered on a global non-proliferation regime, but as more people and nations break the rules, we could reach the point where the center cannot hold.

Now, understand, this matters to people everywhere. One nuclear weapon exploded in one city - be it New York or Moscow, Islamabad or Mumbai, Tokyo or Tel Aviv, Paris or Prague - could kill hundreds of thousands of people. And no matter where it happens, there is no end to what the consequences might be - for our global safety, our security, our society, our economy, to our ultimate survival.

Some argue that the spread of these weapons cannot be stopped, cannot be checked - that we are destined to live in a world where more nations and more people possess the ultimate tools of destruction. Such fatalism is a deadly adversary, for if we believe that the spread of nuclear weapons is inevitable, then in some way we are admitting to ourselves that the use of nuclear weapons is inevitable.

Just as we stood for freedom in the 20th century, we must stand together for the right of people everywhere to live free from fear in the 21st century. (Applause.) And as nuclear power - as a nuclear power, as the only nuclear power to have used a nuclear weapon, the United States has a moral responsibility to act. We cannot succeed in this endeavor alone, but we can lead it, we can start it.

So today, I state clearly and with conviction America’s commitment to seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons. (Applause.) I’m not naive. This goal will not be reached quickly - perhaps not in my lifetime. It will take patience and persistence. But now we, too, must ignore the voices who tell us that the world cannot change. We have to insist, “Yes, we can.” (Applause.)

Now, let me describe to you the trajectory…

Just then the crowd gasped in horror as what was apparently the North Korean missile…. ah, that would be too poetic.

NATO To Obama: Move On

Much like the EU’s response to Obama’s pleas for massive increases in government spending, the Times reports NATO also rejected Obama’s appeal for additional troops in Afghanistan.

Despite a dazzling European tour where Obama “shocked and awed” audiences with his anti-American rhetoric, he’s just coming up empty handed with the people who actual matter…. European leaders included.

Note to Obama:  It might not have been a good call to extort European leaders to do your bidding… it might work here at home through your illegal use of power to shake down the financial industry.  But, I get the feeling that like the rest of the world’s leaders… they aren’t very impressed by your talk.

Obama To Bank: No You Can’t Return the Bailout Money

Stuart Varney reports that a profitable bank forced to take TARP money wants to repay it but the Obama administration is refusing to accept it and threatening them if they keep trying.

That is absurd!  Why would Obama want a bank to keep bailout money?  Obama has clearly stated he has no interest in controlling these financial entities.  Just because Tim “Turbo Tax” Geithner is asking for government control of all financial institutions whether nor not they received federal money  doesn’t mean anything.  And that Pay For Performance Act hasn’t even passed the Democratic controlled Senate.  Stuart, do you actually think the Senate is going to pass that?  Ha ha!

You’re an American now, just space out when Obama talks and try to ignore what he and his administration are doing.  It’s all too complex for most people to even comprehend.   Just relax and things will work out for the best.

As for refusing the bank to repay the TARP money, I’m sure Obama has a good reason and needs to keep it close to his chest.  I mean there are a lot of crazy pitchfork carrying Americans these days and who knows what they might do if they heard about this.

North Korea Rocket Launch to Obama and World: Na Na

Posted in North Korea on April 5th, 2009 by John H – 1 Comment

Today, North Korea went ahead and launched its rocket which The U.S., Japan, and South Korea believe was a cover a long-range missile test.

I’m sure it was a mistake though.  I mean the international community was very clear in its opposition to the launch.  North Korea must not have gotten the memo, right?

Thankfully, upon hearing this news the U.N. Security Council immediately gathered for an emergency session to gossip about the “provocative act.”

“Did you see the missile launch?  Was it as provocative as I’ve heard?”

“Oh, yes… it was quite provocative.  Quite provocative indeed.”

“Do you think North Korea just didn’t get the memo?  Should we send another?”

“Now, hold on… we don’t want to be overbearing or provocative ourselves.   That might send the wrong message.  Let’s just discuss the provocative act some more before we jump to any decision.  Agreed?”

“Aye!”

It was perhaps the most productive U.N. Security Council session we’ve seen in some time.  I’m sure North Korea understands just how serious the international community is now.  Boy that was close.

Obama in Strasbourg: The Love Affair Continues…

Much like Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the crowd that gathered in Strasbourg, France to hear Obama was as giddy as an infatuated school girl.

If the leaders of France and Germany were happy to have a new partner across the Atlantic, some of the citizens of the two countries seemed downright giddy about Obama.

Or at least the ones who took the time to come hear him speak in a bit of Iowa politics on the Rhine.

The cameras, screaming fans and jockeying for good seats were all present, but Stevie Wonder was swapped for Sousa and the accents sounded different at this first overseas town hall meeting.

A group of high school girls who made the trip down from nearby Heidelberg, Germany, to see Obama were jumping up and down and giggling after shaking his hand.

Asked if he met their expectation, they belted out in unison: “Ja!”

Linda Strecker, one of the students, said: “He’s perfect in comparison to Bush.”

A French political science student studying in Strasbourg sounded a lot like the American counterparts she studied with in a study abroad program in Louisiana last year.

“We know he’s not going to change everything, but for the new generation it’s something big: hope,” said Morgan Studele.

Obama is Europe’s new step dad.  To help smooth over any rough patches, he’s willing to say anything to ingratiate himself with his adoptive children.  Pumping up their lack of character while diminishing his own children’s’ if it scores him more brownie points.  “No, you guys are the bestest kids ever!  Honest… I wouldn’t just say that.  I only wish my own children were as well meaning and thoughtful as you.  Speaking of my kids… I know you both have had some… disputes.  Sometimes they can seem arrogant, dismissive, and even derisive but deep down they’re not as bad as you think.  I believe if we just put the past behind us and work together, well gee, I think we’ll be okay.  Group hug!”

Dear lord, we used to think Europeans were somewhat brighter with all that old culture they keep reminding us they possess.  Clearly they are not.  And, guess what… they’re anti-American.  News flash… right?

You can go ahead and blame Bush all you like but he isn’t responsible for their resentment of America.  It’s a much deeper self-inflicted scar they bear.  Bush only reminded them of what they are not… leaders.  Bush didn’t coddle Europe, he didn’t stroke their egos, or pretend they could lead a war on terror.  He called out what was and is an obvious threat facing western civilization and issued a call to action.  What did Europe do?  What it always does… nothing but make excuses.  It’s never lead the world on anything.  Resolving it’s own world wars…nope.  Cleaning up the mess it started in Vietnam… where?  Confronting the communist threat right on its own doorstep… we liked the wall, it served as an focus for our outrage.  Ending the genocide in Bosnia… they’re not even Europeans really.  Displaying a reasonable reaction when attacked by terrorists in Spain and the U.K…. it’s the American’s fault!  The only thing Europe leads the world in is techno music and advancing its own demise.

Europe gave up on itself a long time ago and now time has caught up with Europe.  In a few generations there won’t even be a Europe as we know it so who cares what they think.  Putting ideological debates aside, let the facts speak for themselves.  Europe’s marriage rate is at an all-time low and its abortion rate at an all-time high.  Even counting the large influx of (illegal) immigrants, Europe’s birth rate will not be able to keep pace with its aging population.  Europe is dying and their opinion counts for nothing.

Frankly, I don’t care about Europe or how worked up Europeans get when Obama addresses them because they are irrelevant.   However I do care about America and the direction it is headed.  Despite the economic crisis, we still have the strongest economy in the world, the most powerful military in the world, the best health care system in the world, and the most charitable people in the world.  However with its every announcement, the Obama administration openly states its plans for bigger government, a marginalized military, a substandard, nationalized health care system, and discouragement of charity.  Why would anyone in their right mind freely undermine these accomplishments and replace it with a failed European socialist model?  That’s an easy one -  control.  But more importantly, ask why are Americans passively accepting this “cultural genocide” as inevitable?  Have we lost our minds and our will?
