House Approves $3.5 Trillion Budget Plan

The House today approved the $3.5 Trillion budget  that embraces Obama’s proposals for health care, education, and energy reform.  The House voted 233-196 to pass the Democrat’s $3.5 Trillion budget  with no Republican support.  The budget vote followed a 293-137 vote to reject a Republican alternative that proposed spending $4.8 Trillion less and borrowing $3.6 Trillion less than the Democrat bill.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said,

“This is sort of an emancipation day, this is a special day for us. It is a day that we waited for, worked for, hope for and now we will be able to pass a budget that is truly a statement of national values.”

House Republican Conference Chairman Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) called it

“The most fiscally irresponsible budget in American history.”

The Senate is expected to offer its own version of the budget plan shortly.  And the two versions will have to be reconciled likely later this month.  The House plan also includes “reconciliation” language which will enable Democrats to fast-track health care and education plans without one Republican vote.

Census Bureau: We Intend to Work With “Community Organizations” To Count All Illegal Immigrants in 2010

Posted in Illegal Immigration on April 2nd, 2009 by John H – 2 Comments

Nicholas Ballasy reports:

(CNSNews.com) - The acting director of the U.S. Census Bureau, Thomas Mesenbourg, told CNSNews.com that the bureau intends to work with community organizations to make sure every illegal alien in the United States is counted in the 2010 Census.

The Census is used to apportion the seats in the U.S. House of Representative. There are 435 House seats that are divided among the states in proportion to their population, which is determined by the decennial census. States with more people get more seats in the U.S. House.

This means that a state harboring more illegal aliens can gain more House seats as long as the Census Bureau finds the illegal aliens and counts them. This also means that the illegal alien population resident in the United States during a census year has the potential to alter the regional and philosophical balance of power in Congress.

Mesenbourg made these comments after a press conference I posted yesterday where Commerce Secretary Gary Locke joined Hispanic special interest groups like Univision, the National Council of La Raza, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.

I think this provides some greater clarity regarding the Department of Homeland Security’s recent change of focus in enforcing immigration laws.

90 Percent Gun Claim: Is Our Govt. Lying On Purpose?

William La Jeunesse and Maxim Lott find evidence challenging the claim that 90% of all guns used for crime in Mexico originate from the U.S.

EXCLUSIVE: You’ve heard this shocking “fact” before — on TV and radio, in newspapers, on the Internet and from the highest politicians in the land: 90 percent of the weapons used to commit crimes in Mexico come from the United States.

– Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said it to reporters on a flight to Mexico City.

– CBS newsman Bob Schieffer referred to it while interviewing President Obama.

– California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said at a Senate hearing: “It is unacceptable to have 90 percent of the guns that are picked up in Mexico and used to shoot judges, police officers and mayors … come from the United States.”

– William Hoover, assistant director for field operations at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, testified in the House of Representatives that “there is more than enough evidence to indicate that over 90 percent of the firearms that have either been recovered in, or interdicted in transport to Mexico, originated from various sources within the United States.”

There’s just one problem with the 90 percent “statistic” and it’s a big one:

It’s just not true.

In fact, it’s not even close. By all accounts, it’s probably around 17 percent.

It makes you wonder if our government is just incompetent or malfeasant.   Our government was so quick to accept blame for the violence in Mexico… do you think our government will acknowledge this fact and now apologize to the American people?
