Should Obama’s $3.6 Trillion budget proposal pass Congress, can we expect such glowing results for our money?

The British government apologised Wednesday after a damning official report into a hospital likened by one patient’s relative to “a Third World” health centre.
Stafford Hospital in central England was found to have appalling standards of care, putting patients at risk and leading to some dying, according to a report on Tuesday.

Between 400 and 1,200 more people died than would have been expected in a three-year period at the National Health Service (NHS) hospital, according to an investigation by the Healthcare Commission watchdog.

“It was like a Third World country hospital. It was an absolute disgrace.”

The British premier, who has trumpeted huge increases in spending on the NHS since his Labour party took office in 1997, said there were “no excuses” for what happened to patients at the hospital.

Health Secretary Alan Johnson said: “I apologise on behalf of the government and the NHS, for the pain and anguish caused to so many patients and their families by the appalling standards of care at Stafford Hospital.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Cali.) speaking to a group of both legal and illegal immigrants called the enforcement of current U.S. immigrations laws “un-American.”

On Saturday night, Pelosi joined Gutierrez before a cheering crowd at St. Anthony’s chanting, “Si se puede,” or “Yes we can.”

Referring to work site enforcement actions by ICE agents, Pelosi said, “We have to have a change in policy and practice and again … I can’t say enough, the raids must end. The raids must end.

“You are special people. You’re here on a Saturday night to take responsibility for our country’s future. That makes you very, very patriotic.”

Note to Nancy: it’s YOUR job to be responsible with this country’s future.

While everyone is being stirred up and expressing their outrage over the AIG bonusgate I think it’s time to step back and re-evaluate the situation. Namely, the government’s incompetence or malfeasance in all this mess.

The usual suspects are all actively hard at work to punish AIG on “our” behalf while Obama calls for greater government power over financial institutions. These guys were all involved in crisis and are now ginning up the notion that if they have more power they could avoid such things in the future.

Whether incompetence or malfeasance does Obama really think they deserve greater control of our money?
